This article reviews oxidative stress as one of the mechanisms impairing functions cells, organs, and tissues. Aging is associated with reductions in activities enzymes antioxidant system. Reactive oxygen species formed oxidant damage DNA, RNA, proteins, lipids, leading to cell apoptosis. Neurodegenerative changes can develop conditions mitochondrial dysfunction. A potential direction treatment neurodegenerative pathology consists using antioxidants such melatonin or short peptides AEDG KE. Peptide stimulates endogenous synthesis body ages, while KE have geroprotective properties, normalizing telomere length preventing Studies at cell, organ, tissue levels are important for gerontology search novel approaches diseases.
